VFW Post 2514 will host Standing Watch: New Bern's America 250 Salute to Service, Sacrifice & Remembrance on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Post, located at 3850 Butler Road in New Bern. The event is free for all veterans and their families, but seating is limited and advance registration is required.
The event is presented in partnership with Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory, the New Bern Historical Society, the New Bern Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and New Bern Elks Lodge #764.
This community sponsored event is our chance to come together and honor all veterans and their families in a big way. Walk through a narrated Military Era Living Timeline featuring live models, uniforms, artifacts and historical displays. Enjoy dinner and live acoustic music. And there's much more in store for an afternoon that's part tribute, part celebration, and entirely worth being part of.
Standing Watch is intended for all veterans and their immediate families and is not open to the general public.
"Standing Watch gives our community a chance to slow down and remember, together, what service and sacrifice actually cost," said Steve "Cutter" Blades, Commander of Post 2514. "We're grateful to our partners for helping us build an afternoon that honors our veterans and their families the way they deserve."
