Subscription dues (also called membership dues or annual dues) are the required annual fee to maintain active membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). They cover your national membership for a full calendar year and support the organization's mission to advocate for veterans, provide camaraderie, assist with VA benefits, and fund community programs.

National Annual Dues Amount: The standard national dues are $47.00 per year. Of this amount, $1.98 goes toward your subscription to the VFW magazine, which keeps you informed on veteran issues, events, and benefits.

How They Work:

  • Dues are paid annually and are due on the anniversary of when you joined (or your renewal date).
  • For new members, dues are often collected with your application (cash, check, or card at the Post).
  • Renewals can be handled in-person at the Post, online via the VFW Online Membership System (oms.vfw.org), or by mail.

Life Membership Option: Instead of paying annual dues forever, you can become a VFW Life Member with a one-time payment (or convenient installment plan starting with an initial $45 and the balance billed over 11 months). The Life fee is based on your age (sliding scale—younger members pay more since it covers more years). Benefits include:

  • No more annual renewals or dues increases—ever (guaranteed).
  • Membership transferable to any Post worldwide.
  • Extra perks like a first-year 10% discount on VFW Store merchandise.
  • See this chart for current Life fees by age, or ask at the Post.
