Dixon-Conderman VFW Post 2514 to Host Free Walk-In Tax Preparation Services Through IRS-Sponsored New Bern VITA Program

- 1/20/2026

New Bern, NCDixon-Conderman VFW Post 2514 is proud to partner with the New Bern Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to offer free walk-in tax preparation services to the public. These services will be available on three convenient dates during the 2026 tax season:

·       Tuesday, February 18

·       Tuesday, March 18

·       Tuesday, April 8

All sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the VFW Post located at 3850 Butler Rd, New Bern, NC 28560.

The VITA program is a volunteer-based initiative sponsored by the IRS. Volunteers are trained and certified by IRS instructors to prepare individual federal and North Carolina state tax returns at no charge whatsoever to taxpayers. Services include preparing returns, conducting quality reviews, computer checks for accuracy, reviewing the completed return with the taxpayer, obtaining signatures, and e-filing directly with the IRS.

VITA is completely free for everyone — no income limits apply for these walk-in sessions at the Post, and no fees are charged for preparation, review, or filing.

Convenient options are available:

·       Walk-in for on-the-spot preparation (bring all required documents).

·       Drop-off your paperwork and return later to review, sign, and finalize your return (saves time on-site).

To ensure the fastest and most accurate service, taxpayers are strongly encouraged to bring all necessary documents (W-2s, 1099s, last year's return, etc.). Visit https://www.newbernvita.com/ for the official "What to Bring Checklist” and additional preparation tips.

These sessions provide an excellent, no-cost opportunity for individuals, families, seniors, and others in the New Bern community to get their 2025 taxes prepared professionally and securely by certified volunteers.

The Dixon-Conderman VFW Post 2514 is committed to serving veterans and the broader community. Hosting these free VITA services is part of our ongoing efforts to provide valuable resources and support to residents in Craven County and surrounding areas.
